Well well well! This was last weekend, but I didn't have a chance to write up a post yet. I had a lot of fun, although Saturday was kind of a miss for us since my sister had been looking at the wrong day of the schedule, thus making us miss a few panels we wanted to attend...Still, we got a good long look at the exhibitors (??? in anime conventions it's usually called the dealer's room but I think it's a little different for ComicCons) stuff, and got a handful of cheap comics. I'd been meaning to get into that for a long time, so I'd bought Watchmen and The Killing Joke a couple of years ago. I'd enjoyed both, but then not known where to keep going, or where to go from there. But the Con made me more comfortable about asking around for advice, because everyone was so friendly and welcoming! I'd been enjoying all these Marvel movies (or, the Ironman ones, mostly) which made me even more curious. Having seen the Avengers twice just before the con I was in full on MUST KNOW MORE mode.

I think I enjoyed this convention more than any anime convention in the past two or three years. I guess I've grown a little, or just...it was pleasant to be surrounded by people closer to my age who enjoy these things without needing to, you know, request to have your babies or touch you inappropriately without asking, or ask for pictures in really rude ways. I don't know, they just seemed much more chill than most of the people at anime conventions (not including the people I know, who are all super chill!), like they are fans, enjoy these things, but wouldn't DIE if they couldn't go, you know? Besides the occasional (amazing) cosplay, the attendees were all the kind of people you see when you walk around Ottawa, pretty much.

I think for a first con it was great! The line ups were terrible everywhere, but they went by pretty fast, and I never saw anyone truly unhappy or causing a scene because of lines. The venue was a little small, and I hope they'll find somewhere bigger next time. Also, a few more panels aside from guest ones would be nice too! There's tons to be done, but I guess since it was a starting thing they didn't have many volunteers to give their own panels or suggestions. I'm sure it'll be even better next year.

Brent Spiner and John de Lancie gave amazing panels. I enjoyed Marina Sirtis, too, she made me laugh. But John de Lancie spoke of his dyslexia and his struggle with reading, and a story about his son, too, that was really moving. Brent Spiner was full of energy too, and he made me smile :D

Here are some of the cosplays I saw and enjoyed!

Now to go back to writing my book, side eyeing the Ironman books I bought today... /whistles innocently.
